The Myth, The Legend, The Man

THIS IS A LOVE STORY.

Fleabag

When Stephanie McMahon-Levesque began to create a revolution, the world was unchartered for the next generation of women. McMahon-Levesque, a fourth-generation dramatist, understood the truthfulness of the world.1

For 70 years, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been the revolutionary force in sports entertainment.2 Becky Lynch, an Irish Superstar, wrestled with the mendacities of sport and entertainment. She had a curious dream. And curiosity leads women to try to go where no woman has gone before.

A funny thing happened on the way to WrestleMania. The Man came around. C.G. Jung maintains, “The treasure which the hero fetches from the dark cavern is life: it is himself.”3 To be, or not to be, The Man is often misunderstood. The Man is a myth given us to dream. And that dream burns in us and feeds our flame for freedom.

Agnes Nixon, an American dramatist, posits “living in a universe that is constantly expanding while the world is ever shrinking, man is torn between the outer race with progress and the inner search for personal identity.”4

Becky Lynch is a wrestler. A dramatist is wise to understand the language of the wrestler. Wrestling – it’s poetry. To every hero, there is always a dream to love and be loved in return. Wrestlers aren’t heels. Wrestlers are the heroes.

A dramatist is burdened with contempt for the spectacle. Wrestling – it’s not a spectator sport. It’s poetry in motion! Aristotle posits, “The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry.”5

WrestleMania 35 was not your grandfather’s WrestleMania. It was apropos of the banner year for women throughout the generations. And then there was Becky. She was unstoppable. “The Man” Becky Lynch created history by being the first woman to win the main event at WrestleMania.6 She always wanted to be big time!

Established in 1956, the WWE Women’s Championship was the crown jewel of classical wrestling. And legend gives shape to truth. Becky’s victory as the first woman to be in possession of the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships at the same time transcends generations. She began to transcend by the wisdom and understanding in all dreams. A dream is nothing besides the myth understood in the nothingness of truth.7 She had a dream for just such a time as a revolution.
